Port St. Lucie, FL - March 4, 2014 - Richard Jove, Ph.D., President and Director of VGTI Florida®, will present a webinar titled “Emergence of Stem-Like Cells in Prostate Cancer Drug Resistance” for the Life Sciences South Florida (LSSF) group, sponsored by Florida International University.

The webinar broadcast on March 18, 2014 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, will present how precision medicine can improve upon conventional medicine in the context of prostate cancer treatment.  In particular, how innovative, targeted therapy can be a better solution for cancer treatment in combination with traditional therapies.

Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death among males in the United States.  According to the American Cancer Society, about 233,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed, and about 29,480 men will die of prostate cancer in the US in 2014.

“This webinar will be of interest to those studying not only the STAT3 pathway but also for those interested in how precision (personalized) medicine can be applied in the clinical setting”, said Dr. Jove.

Dr. Jove’s team was the first to directly link STAT3 signaling to cancer and immune evasion, as well as validate STAT3 as a new molecular target for cancer therapy.

Dr. Jove’s independent research career began at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, where he was also Director of Molecular Oncology.  Dr. Jove has also held leadership positions at the H. Lee Moffitt NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center, Beckman Research Institute, and the City of Hope NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center.
